With all that in mind, I'm heading into the coming week with a goal. I'm going to focus only on the things that I can control - my kids, my planning, my classroom - and let the chips fall as they may with everything else. Those other things might affect me, but worrying about what will happen serves no purpose. This morning my aim is to get my house sorted - all the laundry done, the floors washed etc. - and have a fridge full of healthy food to get me through the school week. That means this girl has to get off the couch asap!
I went through my Pinterest boards to find a quote to motivate me (and maybe you, too!) to relax and stress less this week, and although I have lot of beautiful images with meaningful words it was this one that I thought was the best:
Apparently it's a Polish proverb! Let me know if you have any sure-fire relaxation methods - I'm up for some new ideas. :)

Oh no Lauren! That's no good! You are completely correct, concentrate on the things you can control! Don't worry, it has happened to me too. It took a couple of months for me to figure out that it was all stress related. Now I teach at a different school, have a different year level (it was a tough year level that year) and everything has settled down. Good luck!

Aww Lauren - I'm so glad that you're feeling better! I suffer from stress migraines so I am also learning how to deal with stress a little better. My stress was almost all school related - I used to sit in my study every night during the week and all weekend. Now I come home and only do school work until 4:30pm (if at all!) and then I leave the study for the night. This has helped me to separate work from home and really enjoy some time with my hubby or on my own. Most weeks I try to plan for the following week during my non-contact or after school up until 4.30 which leaves my weekends free for whatever I like! Even when I plan a weekend of no school work, I always end up finding resources to make but I actually find that to be a huge stress reliever myself haha.
ReplyDeleteIf all else fails, a block of chocolate and a good dose of reality tv always calms me down when I'm feeling a bit stressed out or anxious about something! Bubble baths with candles and relaxation music helps too. In fact, when my kids are a little ratty and I feel the stress levels rising, I will often put on some meditation music or yoga videos to bring us all back down to earth.
You are completely right in focusing only on the things you can change though and your monkey quote links quite well to the circus that is my classroom some days lol!
